About Us
St. Paul Lutheran Church was formed out of the desire to bring healing to those
who hurt. After a child in the congregation of St. James Lutheran Church died,
the children of the congregation wanted to worship and honor their friend in
their common language- English. In 1891 six families from St. James formed a
new congregation in order to do worship in order to do just that, and they began
holding services in English in a small brick schoolhouse on Fisher Road.
In the spirit of the
Reformation, this congregation offered worship services in the common language
for the children and families of the New Rome area. The congregation grew and
in 1893 the congregation built a plain white
frame church on the corner of Fisher Road and Rome-Hilliard Road.
In the midst of World War I plans for a larger building were made. On October
22, 1922 we moved to our current location on Pasadena Avenue. The building has
grown and changed along with the congregation.
The little congregation of St. Paul came from German and Scandinavian
immigrants, but has grown to encompass a variety of backgrounds, bringing a rich
blend of stories, personalities, and gifts to the congregation. We began out of
a deep desire to share God’s love and healing with those in need; where does
that desire lead us today? Who knows what God has in mind as we look at the
needs of our growing and ever-changing community? Because we are held in the
grip of God’s grace we are free to dream how we can help others know Jesus. The
Holy Spirit equips us Individually and Together to BE and
MAKE DISCIPLES of Jesus |
